Doctor Who Stars Record Messages For Kent's 50th Celebration

On Friday November 22nd BBC South East hosted a very special screening of the first episode of Doctor Who in the home town of its writer Anthony Coburn in Herne Bay.

The evening was attended by Carole Ann Ford, Waris Hussein - Director,  Jessica Carney – William Hartnell's Granddaughter, Katy Manning, Kate O’Mara and Dan Starkey.

A whole host of celebrities from the world of Doctor Who took the time to record messages which were screened to the 500+ fans at the free event which took place at the Kings Hall.

Colin Baker, Tom Baker, William Russell, Janet Fielding, Sophie Aldred were just some of the celebrities who had recorded messages for the audience earlier in the year. 

BBC South East presenter Rob Smith hosted a panel after the screening which reveal that Dan Starkey will be returning as Strax with Peter Capaldi in the future. A shortened version of the 45 minute panel is below.

Stuart Maisner, producer for BBC South East Today, said: “The first episode was written in Herne Bay so the absolute logic is there – where else could we show it?"

Stuart spent over 4 months organizing the event, traveling the country recording special messages from stars of the show to be broadcast before the screening.
